St David's Healthcare in partnership with WorkSource, Austin Community College and the Seton Family of Hospitals has been awarded a $428,240, three-year grant to promote work-based learning.

The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses will hold a meeting aimed at revitalizing the central Texas chapter on November 14 at 6:00 PM at the St David's Institute for Learning at 7800 Shoal Creek Blvd, Ste 124-S.

The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) is a professional organization formed to promote high standards of nursing practice, facilitate the implementation of practice guidelines, provide educational programs for it's members, foster scholarly activity, and to disseminate new ideas for all areas of adult health/medical-surgical nursing.

St David's Healthcare and the Institute for Learning CPR Training Center will participate in the American Heart Association's CPR Saturday, a mass CPR training event aimed at training the public in the basics of CPR. The event will be held on Saturday, October 28th from 10:00--2:00 at the Frank Erwin Center's Lone Star Room.

The St. David's Institute for Learning in concert with Austin Community College has graduated it's second class of SNAP Fellows, the Beta SNAPs, by hosting an appreciation dinner and gathering at Esther's Follies on Friday, January 27th. In addition to congratulating the graduating class the group offered thanks and  farwell to Dr. Susan Smith, SNAP Program Director. Dr. Smith will be moving to Arizona and was instrumental in establishing the program and making it a huge success.

The Institute for Learning and SDHP Recruitment Open House, held on November 29th at 7800 Shoal Creek Blvd was a definite success. Food, drinks, door prizes and an eager and knowledgable staff greeted visitors from both inside and outside the St David's Healthcare Partnership who came to tour the facility, interact with clinical simulation tools, meet members of the Clinical Devepment, Leadership Development and Recruitment teams and get to know this amazing new facility.

The St David's Healthcare Partnership Institute for Learning and Partnership Recruiters will hold an open house at their new facility on November 29th from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Located at 7800 Shoal Creek Blvd, Suite 124-S, the new facility offers more classroom space, state-of-the-art media equipment, a computer lab and a convenient central location to meet the needs of all SDHP hospitals and clinics.

The St David's Healthcare Partnership in association with the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas is involved in a pilot program to develop better literacy skills for employees whose primary language is not English. The Program Using Literacy Services for Sustainable Employment (P.U.L.S.S.E.) is aimed at providing classes for SDHP interested employees to improve communication skills in an English-language setting.

The SDHP Leadership Academy's first graduating class was honored in two ceremonies earlier this month. On March 2nd at the Renaissance Hotel and March 4th at the Marriott Hotel Downtown, department supervisors and managers from all St David's Partnership facilities, who had competed the the eight required core Leadership Academy courses...

All supervisors, directors and other management personnel registering for 2005 Leadership Academy courses must register through ABCSignup, a new registration program being piloted by the Institute for Learning. If the program is successful, it will be expanded to all SDI courses beginning April 2005. 

The St. David's HealthCare Partnership was recently awarded a $2,000,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to fund an innovative nurse fellowship pilot program in Austin.  The objective of the two-year grant is to recruit, train and retain registered nurses in three specialty areas...
