Preceptor Development

Nursing Preceptors

Nursing preceptors are vital to the orientation and training of newly hired nurses. They are typically seasoned nurses with good teaching skills that have been trained by St. David's HealthCare through the Preceptor Development Workshop. This workshop is designed to facilitate role transition to preceptor and develops expertise and role clarity.  Practical examples of how to apply concepts such as adult learning theories, novice to expert, and providing constructive feedback are used.

Non-Nursing Preceptor Program

A non-nursing preceptor program is presented quarterly for educators/preceptors in non-nursing areas such as Respiratory Care, Laboratory, Rehabilitation Services, etc., with a curriculum mirroring the Nursing program, but incorporating content specific to these areas.
