• When can I apply for the SNAP Fellowship?

  You must first be hired as an employee of St. David’s HealthCare in your specialty area before you apply for the SNAP Fellowship.

• When do the SNAP Fellowships start?

  The fellowships start in June and January.

• 3. What if I already have Emergency Department (ED) or Critical Care (ICU) or Medical/Surgical experience and I want to apply for the SNAP Fellowship? Am I still eligible?

  If you are a Med/Surg nurse with less than 3 years of experience, you are still eligible to apply for the fellowship if you’re applying to work in another specialty area. If you would like to apply for the Med/Surg SNAP Fellowship, you must have less than 1 year of Med/Surg experience. If you have ED/ICU experience and want to apply for the ED/ICU SNAP Fellowship, you must have less than 1 year of ED/ICU experience to apply.

• How long is the SNAP Fellowship?

  The SNAP Fellowships extend from 9 months to a year, depending on the specialty.

• Does the SNAP Fellowship cost anything?

  No, staff nurses do not pay to participate in the fellowship.

• Will I be paid to work while I’m taking SNAP Fellowship classes?

  Staff nurses are paid their regular salary while attending the fellowship, but some out-of-class work is expected.

• Does one initially start work as a Graduate Nurse on the floor and then join the SNAP Fellowship training?

  You would start working on your unit of hire and then apply for the fellowship within a few months.

• How early should I apply for a GN position with St. David’s HealthCare?

  December graduates can apply in August and June graduates can apply in February. If you’re planning on moving to Austin from out of state, you can apply 1-2 months before your relocation. If you’re planning on visiting Austin before your move, please apply before you come for the visit so that interviews may be set up if possible.

• Is participation in the SNAP Fellowship limited to a specific number of participants/positions?

  Due to the fact that several specialties are involved in the SNAP Fellowship, the number of participants will depend on which units are hiring nurses.

• Is the program available to nurses that currently reside outside of Texas?

  You would need to secure a position with a St. David’s Hospital first, in order to apply for the SNAP Fellowship.
