Acceptable Cards and Renewal Policy

ACCEPTABLE CARDS
For BLS, the ST. DAVID’S HEALTHCARE accepts a valid, unexpired:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) "Healthcare Provider (HCP)" card
  • American Red Cross "CPR Professional Rescuer & AED for Healthcare Providers" card
  • The Military Training Network (MTN) BLS Healtcare Provider card--an AHA affiliate

All other cards are invalid and holders must complete an approved course, either within St. David’s Healthcare or with an outside trainer. For ACLS and PALS only AHA cards are accepted. Cards not accepted include American Safety and Health Institute (AHSI), CPR Resources, Texas CPR Training, American CPR Training and any other cards other than the above listed cards. The statement "Taught according to AHA guidelines." or some variation of that statement does not make the card acceptable.

CARD RENEWAL POLICY
All AHA course cards are valid for two years through the end of the month in which the card was issued. The AHA does not consider a cardholder’s Provider or Instructor status current beyond the recommended renewal date. There is no grace period for either provider or instructor cards, but attending a renewal class is generally acceptable if the person has attended a prior full provider class. Renewal instructors, however have the discretion of sending a student through a full provider class if lack of knowledge and/or skills indicate it is necessary.

CARD REPLACEMENT POLICY

To replace a lost or stolen card, contact St. David's Institute for Learning at 512-544-0100. There is a $5.00 charge to replace an ACLS, BLS or PALS card. Verification of course attendance is required for replacement.
