Advanced Student Experience (ASE)

Program Overview

Schools of nursing and St. David's HealthCare (SDH) have partnered to offer the Advanced Specialty Experience (ASE) program to senior nursing students in their final semester. Through ASE, student nurses will complete additional specialty-focused hours in guided clinical experiences with a 1:1 preceptor, along with didactic classroom courses, in a high-need specialty area.

Students will complete 13 additional 12-hour shifts (equivalent to 172 clinical hours) above their "Preceptor-Supervised Capstone" requirement, to include graduate nurse residency and simulation courses.

Students will be transferred into an RN Resident position with SDH upon successful completion of ASE, including all program requirements and the final evaluation process. In addition, students will receive a stipend paid after successful completion of the program and transition into a full-time RN Resident position.
