New Employee Orientation

Orientation for all new St David's HealthCare (SDH) employees is a vital part of your employment process. To help you become familiar with the information, schedules and expectations for your orientation process, we have provided you with schedules and information you will need to have a smooth and successful orientation. *To view pre-employment requirement for nursing, please scroll to the bottom of the page.

Market New Employee Orientation (NEO)

New Employee Orientation is required by all SDH employees, regardless of location and is held every other Monday, unless due to a holiday. Topics covered in NEO include, but are not limited to the following:

  • St. David's HealthCare goals, structure and functions
  • Infection Control
  • SDH Employee Health & Safety Program
  • Ethics and Compliance
  • SDH Customer Service Expectations
  • Environment of Care
  • Patient's Rights

PCT Orientation Program

St David's Institute for Learning offers a PCT Orientation Program for all newly-hired clinical technicians. The PCT Orientation Program combines unit-based clinical experience, instructor-led and eLearning didactic education, simulation, and skills lab training. The approximately four week program is intended to provide the initial skills required for the success of the PCT.

The program begins with one week (week 0) of New Employee Orientation (NEO) and unit-based orientation with a preceptor.

The second week (week 1) starts with PCT Intensive class, which runs from Monday and Tuesday from 8-4:30 and Wednesday from 8-12. Students are registered by HR through the Institute for Learning and attendance of ALL class dates are MANDATORY. If students are brand new to healthcare OR if the manager requests, in addition to the PCT Intensive, they will attend the PCT Boot Camp on the Wednesday from 12:30pm – 4:30 pm. ALL classes are held at St. David’s Institute for Learning. Week 1 concludes with working in the unit with a preceptor.

The remainder of the orientation is spent working with a preceptor in the unit of hire. At the unit manager’s discretion, a recommended minimum of 6-9 twelve hour shifts will be spent working with a preceptor throughout the program.

Partnership Nursing Orientation (PNO)

PNO is now done online in Healthstream for all new RNs and LVNs. This online course is automatically assigned based on hire date and new nurses have 30 days to complete it. This may be worked into your first week of site orientation or nurse educators may allow it to be done a a later date. The course consists of the following modules:

  • Culturally Competent Care
  • National Patient Safety Goals
  • Restraint Management
  • Advanced Pain Management
  • Organ Donation--TOSA, Eye Bank, Tissue Center
